On The Boards
The Oak Park homeowners wanted to extend their deck from the side of the house to the back, adding a pool and entertainment areas for hosting parties. To maintain the large driveway, we created entertainment spaces on either side of the pool—one on the deck and another at ground level with an aluminum louvered pergola. To soften the area, we preserved a grassy spot beneath the tree for the family’s dog and replaced part of the driveway with a new planting bed along the deck. The final design is a thoughtfully crafted space that caters to both family and guests.
Oak Park Plunge
We redesigned the backyard for our client after it was damaged by machinery and heavy foot traffic during their home renovation. We presented two design options that met all their needs, including egress and ingress through the backyard, an entertainment area near the garage or house, and a spacious grassy area for the kids and dog to enjoy. Additionally, HDS created custom mechanical screening around the AC units, adding both comfortability and style, resulting in a functional oasis.

Edgewater Tranquility
This client wanted to reimagine their roof deck, particularly for summer use, to provide relief from the intense sun, while also expanding their patio area in the backyard. In our design, we added two shade structures and a privacy screen to shield the space from the neighboring apartment complex. For the patio, we included a pergola system and a shade garden at the back of the property to soften the atmosphere. Additionally, a row of trees was incorporated to enhance privacy from surrounding neighbors.
Hoffman Estates
HDS was contracted to create a comprehensive site plan for this proposed 7-Acre multi-family housing center in the NW Chicago Suburbs. The plan focused on stitching a new development in to the existing peri-urban fabric to create a vibrant community Live, Work, + Play environment. Connections to adjacent hospitality, entertainment, and commercial office spaces was incorporated, as well as creating a unique sense of place for residents across multiple scales of concern.
